Night number one of superNanny bedtime routine for sweet Michael…

Well… I will say that it took about an hour for Michael to go to sleep. I took him to bed, we read a book, we said prayers, and then I said goodnight. He asked me to lay with him for a little bit and I said I would but that it was time for bed and there was no talking or messing around. This was not something that he was willing to agree with lol, but I gave him no choice. I layed with him but as soon as he started talking and messing around I left the room. Of course, he followed me, and I calmly took him to bed, tucked him in, told him I loved him and that it was time for bed. I then informed him that for the rest of the evening if he got out of bed there would be no talking, I would just be putting him back in bed. So, I left the room, and again he followed me. I calmly walked him back and pointed to him bed and turned to walk out of the room, but he stayed in bed, so I remained in the room by the door. As soon as he got out of his bed, I left the room. He followed me and I led him back to his room, put him in bed and did the same thing. He stayed in his bed ?o I remained in the room by the door until he got out again. Again I led him back to the room and pointed to his bed. He got into bed, and I did the same, standing by the door, but this time he stayed in bed. He was crying and asking me to lay with him, but I shook my head no and stood by the door. He stopped crying and continued to stay in bed, so to reward him, I sat on the end of his bed for a couple of minutes, by the end of which he was fast asleep. This was at 9:30 I believe, and now 83 he is still sleeping, in his own bed. I’m not sure if I made the right choice by sitting on his bed, but I was very happy with him for always getting into bed (as opposed to laying on the floor in the hallway refusing to get back in bed and making me drag him there lol) AND staying there AND calming himself down too. Oh well… he and I survived the first night, we shall see what tomorrow brings.

Wow! 9:30! For your sake I hope that wasn’t just a fluke or a reaction from being so tired from the night before. ;) Especially with school coming up soon it’ll be good to get him on a better schedule. Say, speaking of better sleeping schedules, what time did YOU fall asleep last night?

Hey there Kate, it’s Diana, Becca’s friend. I ended up here after following the link from her page and boy am I glad I did. We have horrible times getting Lucas to bed and I think I might give this a go. Any other tips? Great job for you and your little guy, I know how tough it is. :)

Good for Michael, and good for you for sticking to your guns! I know for me sometimes I’m the problem because I give in, even though that just makes things worse. Best of luck with the sleeping thing.
