Well, both of my babies are officially in SCHOOL! Today was Audrey’s first day of kindergarten and you would have thought she won the lottery. I heard Chris waking her up today and the first thing she said was,”IS TODAY MY FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN????“. It was quite cute. Michael even seemed to be excited and said that he looked forward to recess so he and Audrey could play together (we’ll see if that actually happens lol). Chris went the extra mile this morning and made the kids the breakfast of champions: Pancakes! Audrey happily ate them (but only one when normally she can put down several) and Michael asked for cereal. After breakfast it was off to school! When we got there Michael ran off to his teachers line and Audrey excitedly found her teacher to get her name badge ! Almost as soon as she got her tag it was time to head inside and it was then that I saw the first pangs of nervousness on Audrey’s face. She turned around several times to make sure I was still there and just before she entered the school she turned and waved with a big smile on her face. I watched a lot of the other mother’s there who were bringing their first child to kindergarten get teary and stand at the doors, and it was nice to know I’d already been at that stage and could enjoy this day for what it was… a BIG moment in AUDREY’s life! It had been just as important for Michael, but I was much more focused on myself and how sad it was to see him grow up. At least now I can appreciate it!

OK, so here is this super awesome music video for “Here It Goes Again” by OK Go. I saw this a few weeks ago on VH1’s Best Week Ever. This group did the choreography on treadmills. I can’t even describe it. It is super sweet, and totally worth a look.
Many black youths fall under a spell of “gangster mentality,” preventing them from becoming leaders and making a positive impact in politics, the Rev. Al Sharpton said.
The civil rights activist faulted Hollywood and the record industry for making “gangsterism” seem cool and acceptable.
It sounds as if he’s placing the blame squarely on the shoulders of high-up executives, while ignoring people like 50 Cent, who are actually making the music that glorifies the lifestyle.
“We have got to get out of this gangster mentality, acting as if gangsterism and blackness are synonymous,” Sharpton said Thursday at the annual conference of the National Association of Black Journalists.
This may make me sound racist, but a lot of times, based on what I see, gangsterism and blackness ARE synonymous. I know this isn’t always true though. And I’m really not racist.
“I think we’ve allowed a whole generation of young people to feel that if they’re focused, they’re not black enough. If they speak well and act well, they’re acting white, and there’s nothing more racist than that.”
Whoever thought to tell them that speaking well would mean they’re acting white? To me that would mean they’re educated.
The key to leadership is taking the initiative to change things, said Sharpton. He said his National Action Network is just one group willing to help young black leaders get into politics.
“Nobody broke in my house in Brooklyn and dragged me out the projects and made me a leader, I wanted to do that. Clearly, we would work with young people who want to do the work,” he said.
Lottie Shackelford, vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, said during the same panel discussion that the time is ripe for getting more young black people involved.
“So many young folks are waiting to be asked, or they say they want others to move so they can gain a slot, and I say, there’s room for everybody. Let’s work together,” she said.
Sharpton, who competed in several Democratic primaries during a 2004 presidential bid, said he might run again in 2008 but will decide after this November’s elections.
The whole tone of this article seems to me to continue the portrayal of blacks as victims. Why can’t Reverend Sharpton be more like Dr. Bill Cosby? He really seems to have some solutions to the problems facing the black community. In fact, when you listen to some of the things he says, he seems to have the solutions to a lot of society’s problems, not just those faced by the black community. Here are a few points he made:
- No longer is a person embarrassed because they’re pregnant without a husband.
- No longer is a boy considered an embarrassment if he tries to run away from being the father of the unmarried child
- All this child knows is “gimme, gimme, gimme.â€
- And these people are not parenting. They’re buying things for the kid. $500 sneakers, for what? They won’t buy or spend $250 on Hooked on Phonics.
Yes, while these problems are faced by the majority of black families, they aren’t exclusively black problems. Maybe we should ALL start listening to Bill Cosby.
Chris kindly reformated my computer so it was running smoothly for the start of school, but it meant I was banned for a few days! Not much going on here, just trying to gear up for school and get excited. It’s coming down to the wire and the end of my studies for my BA! So this semester will be full of getting ready for the GRE (master’s program entrance exam) and doing lots of volunteer work to help my applications look good! Busy, busy, busy!
While I can’t imagine him dancing for Celine (I just feel he’s too good for that!), I’m still thrilled that Benji
won on So You Think You Can Dance!!!!
P.S. I can not help it if I’m a big dork, but I love this show lol!
I’ve begun giving my children “gifts” in the mornings if they stayed in bed the night before. This is horrible, but so far it is working!
Big thanks to Becca for making me download this video. It is hilarious and makes me want to try the chicken fries.
UPDATE: The Chicken Frys are AWESOME!!!
Is Mary Murphy one of the most annoying people in the world or what? Tonight, instead of doing her customary annoying scream, she acted like her hand was a puppet, and made her hand scream. Wow. I’m having a hard time trying to figure out who is on more drugs: Mary Murphy or Paula Abdul.
I just got done listening to Fergie “sing” London Bridge on XM Satellite Radio. Wow. That song is horrendous. This song was #10 on 20 on 20. Who in the world listens to this stuff. Check this out:
How come every time you come around
My London London Bridge want to go down
Like London London want you to go down
Like London London be going down
What in the heck does that even mean? Is she referring to oral sex? Normally when I hear “go down” that is what I would think of. But then, is she calling herself the London Bridge? You gotta love definition #2 over on the Urban Dictionary:
A meaningless, vaguely sexual term used by Fergie in her single of the same name, invented simply to stir up discussion about an otherwise forgettable and derivative song.
Of course, I’ve only gotten one movie, since I just signed up on Monday. Yesterday I watched The Benchwarmers. Wow, talk about a lame movie. I did like Jon Heder in it of course, because he reminded me of Napoleon. And Napoleon rocks.
