Yesterday there was a murder (link to story) in Chris’s hometown, and I will be interested to find out more. I think it is interesting that the paper is already acting as though the murderer was a cold blooded woman who was out looking for murder, but I suppose his family is thinking the same thing. I will be interested to see how the story plays out. So often, I believe that these cases are linked to domestic violence. As a woman, of course, this is where I immediately go, and perhaps I am wrong. But I do hope that if this is the case the paper runs a new piece on what this woman must have been through to get to the point of killing her domestic partner.

It is a sad story and I would probasbly jump to domestic violence as well, but I did ot get the impression that they thought that Linn was a cold blooded killer. It really said very little about her.
I agree with you, in a small town like Wilton, it is sooo irresponsible of the media to publish a symapthetic story relating to the victim even in light of his “lengthy criminal record”.
Yes, people get shot…people get killed. It’s horrible. Let’s report the facts…but let’s not try someone in the court of public opinion by creating a sympathetic picture of a man who has a “lengthy criminal” past.
This media may have introduced information into the potential jury pool that might otherwise have been excluded from the trial.
I am reading information about school shooting and I am so sick and tired about how this kid worshipped satan or whatever…before they even get to trial.
Not that the Muscatine Journal constitutes a major media outlet, but I think we need to raise the standard of responsible reporting.
