How have women been able to deal with this for years and years? My son is in cub scouts and it is time for the annual pinewood derby, which is an event that is supposed to foster loving father/son relationships, but really I believe it is what the boy scouts of America use to help boy scout stores remain open with providing item after ridiculous item touting the promise of helping one build the best pinewood derby car they can build. I love my husband so very much, and I completely respect the fact that he is so willing to do all this work to help our son make a good car… but good heavens! How much pinewood derby car crap does one family need?! I have been assured that this is an investment that can be used for three more years (and if we should have more boys lol). Just mourn for me… I am a pinewood derby mom/wife!

I have to say this made me laugh so hard. I am in this mess times 3. see being in scouts myself my man thinks he needs to make one plus my 2 boys. I really know what you are going through, I have affectionately termed the the Tim Taylor time of cub scouts.
I completely feel for you…you are a pinewood derby widow…
I am a football widow, basketball widow, baseball widow, fantasy sports widow, marathon widow…law school finals widow…
We should start a support group.
I remember pinewood derby/the boat thing hell that I went through as a kid. Kate and Becca, just know that if your husbands don’t go all out to help your sons have a great car, they will just suffer when the actual competition happens. I remember being so frustrated that my boat looked like crap (I don’t remember the car that much) because I actually did it myself. I also lost really badly because I hadn’t really painted or sanded very much. It was a horrible experience. So either go all out, or don’t bother showing up.
Yes Mike… this is what I understand as well. It really is a shame, because I think it’s supposed to be fun, but if the boys just end up feeling crappy then why do it?
I would like to comiserate with you, but… at least your husband isn’t in charge of the event! (I can tell you that that sucks exponentially worse!)
