My new big idea…

So, according to some expert on Oprah or Dr. Phil, I can’t remember right now, to raise children that are happy you have to love life.  I am not quite sure what this means, but they also said that children whose mothers only love THEM grow up feeling like they can never love themselves.  SO… it is my new goal to learn to love myself.  This is NO small feat I promise you, and if you know me, you know I am the queen of self-deprecation.   So,  instead of going on some big diet and saying here’s all these things in my life that I need to change because I am such a loser… I am trying to find the good in me.

How do I do this, you ask?  I have NO CLUE!  I would love any and all suggestions for this!  I will leave it all in your trusty hands… YOU teach ME!  Teach me…… now!

Mixed emotions…

Well, I spent the last five days in Des Moines with Becca in the hospital.  She was released this morning, so I headed home.  I am so happy to be home, I missed the kids and I really, really missed Chris.  The only problem is… I know this is going to sound ridiculous… but I also miss Becca now lol!  I won’t say it was barrels of fun to watch her in pain, but it was also really nice to get to spend so much time with her without all of the distractions of life that we normally get, like six kids lol.  For the record, I miss Josh too… we had a lot of fun while Becca was knocked out or in surgery playing slap jack, go fish, and watered down poker.  All in all, I am glad to be home, glad to be back with my family, and glad to be back to my bed (OHHHH yes, no more hospital loveseat), but now I miss Becca and Josh.  Oh well, luckily this is Becca’s birthday weekend, so we’ll get to hang out again lol!

Poor Becca…

I have spent the last two days here in Des Moines with poor Becca.  She had a scope yesterday to remove a gall stone from her body, and then today had surgery to remove her gall bladder!  For the full story go read up on their blog.  Chris has been wonderful and volunteered to be a single parent for a few days while I am here keeping Becca and Josh company.  So far, she is doing well and she should be coming home tomorrow!

My baby is six…

Well, today is Audrey’s 6th birthday. We went to see Shrek the Third at the movie theatre, and then I let her choose where we went for her birthday dinner, and she chose…

Update…

So far I have:

cleaned out the catch all drawer

cleaned out hall closet

cleaned out laundry area

organized linen closet

cleaned out under the sofas

gutted my closet (though… it is not clean, just gutted   )…

I’m pushing through!

Deep cleaning=sloooow going

For whatever reason, I am having trouble getting motivated to deep clean my house.  It may have something to do with the fact that over the course of this last week of school and then the crazy weekend that followed, my house has become what appears to be some sort of war zone.  I know many of you know me, and you’ve been to my home many times and you are thinking… yeah, right.  Well, yeah RIGHT!  It’s horrible!  My children’s rooms are so full of junk I can’t turn off the lights at bedtime until I am out of the room for fear I may step on something!  My own bedroom, usually the calm in the chaos of messy, is horrific… so horrific that even Chris said he couldn’t stand it anymore!  Do you REALIZE how bad it has to be for HIM to say that?!  B.A.D.  Laundrey has pilled up everywhere, things have been shoved under the sofas, and every day something new comes up missing.  So, I have only one full day before Jess (my wonderful friend who has been away from me for tooo long and is coming to see me!) gets here so I have 24 hours to get off my bootay and get this stuff done!

I’m going to type it all down and this way you will all keep me accountable, right?!  Of course!

Tomorrow I will:

Go through my scrapbook stuff and pitch what I do not use (and by pitch I mean craigslist it lol)

go through the catch-all drawer and clean it out

get everything out from under the sofas

clean out  my backpack

organize the hall closet

clean out laundry cubby

clean both bathrooms

organize linen closet

gut my closet!

gut my desk

list books on half.com or amazon

clean children’s rooms (either while they are at school so I can purge or with their help after school… I haven’t decided)

clean my bedroom

LAUNDRY (wash, fold, AND PUT AWAY)

Move dressers into the kids rooms???  Not sure, we’ll see!

vacuum

scrub bathroom floors and kitchen floor

I think that is all, but I reserve the right to add on!  Ok… send me your motivational vibes!!!!!  I’m going to head to bed so I can gear up for tomorrow!!!

I think it is now safe to say!

I am a college graduate!  I have gotten all of my grades now and happily, I passed all of my last classes!  We had my graduation party on Sunday at my parents house and it was so fun to get together with friends and celebrate!  My parents and Chris put in soooo much work to make the party a success!  So, now I have eight days until I start graduate school…  to celebrate that I am deep cleaning our apartment!  This would be boring except that today Chris got me my graduation present from him… an IPOD shuffle!  I’m very excited, I’ve loaded it up and now I’m going to clean and listen to some MIKA, Maroon 5, and some Paul Simon (to name a few).

Breakfast with Michael…

So this morning Michael and Audrey were talking over breakfast and Michael said,”I have to give Giani a hug today.” Of course, this peaked my interest because we have had several discussions about if his classmates/friends are comfortable with giving hugs like he is. So I say…

ME: “Michael, no, I really don’t think that is appropriate”

MICHAEL: “Whhhhhhhy?”

ME: “We’ve talked about this before, Michael. It’s just not appropriate at school.”

Long pause….

MICHAEL: “Mom… I said hugs, not drugs. I just want to give a HUG.”

How do you argue with that  ?

Audrey’s Dance Recital

After months and months of practice, Audrey and her classmates had their dance recital today! It was so adorable to see all of the little girls running around in their tutus and poodle skirts! Audrey’s class had two numbers, the first was a “ballet” routine to “Deep In the Heart of Texas” DSC03173

Their next routine was a tap dance to “Happy Days” theme song. This was Audrey’s favorite song and routine and she LOVED the outfits DSC03192

Here she is getting her rose from Daddy after her performance DSC03190

She also had a fun time after the recital begging me to take pictures of her as she gave different dance poses DSC03196

All in all, it was a fun recital and we are so grateful for all the hard work that Audrey and her friends and their teacher Lara Ross put in to today!!!
