Emergency room? Or Field House?

As maybe one or two of you know, yesterday I decided I wanted to try walking from work (Phillips Hall) to class (Field House). That’s across the river. I never had the courage to try walking across the river, because:

  1. I never thought I had time
  2. Even if I had time, I thought perhaps I wouldn’t make it

19jun2007-1Well, I sure made it ok. And in 18 minutes. I did stop to take a picture from the top of the footbridge at the intersection of Burlington & Riverside. By the time I made it, I was pretty exhausted. I had on a heavy backpack, and I have a nasty cold that makes it hard for me to breath. But I made it. When I got to the Field House, I decided to lay down in the grass and take a break.19jun2007-2

Well, today I thought I wouldn’t try it, because my cold seemed to be even worse, which made breathing harder, and my backpack was even heavier today. In my backpack I had this:

and this:
20jun2007-2

In addition, I had these two giant books in my hands:

Well, all of that combined to make the walk even harder than it was yesterday. As I neared the end, I took this picture:

Near the left side of that pic, is the sign pointing to the Emergency Room. At this point, I was feeling like this was a pretty good option. I mean, really, carrying all that extra stuff was… sucky. But in the distance, beyond that Cambus, was my destination, the Field House. Specifically, the 4th floor. I decided to push on. I made it. I was sweaty, and tired. But I’m alive. And tired.

Good to see you walking but watch the heat. Make sure one of the things you are carrying is a bottle of water.

Great job Chris, don’t stop now. And pay attention to Sharon, remember the water. I’m proud of you.
