Poor Audrey…

Now, as a child my parents never grounded me.  When I got in trouble there was no way my parents would punish me by letting me sit on my tush in my bedroom… oh NO, there were many, many chores on a farm and when I got in trouble, plenty of them had my name on them!  However, we live in town and there just aren’t an abundance of chores to be done here so I bit the bullet and decided if it came down to it, grounding would be the way to go (especially since neither of my kids have tvs or phones in their rooms to make it LOTS of fun for them).

So today Michael is having some friends over to play the Wii this afternoon and so I had offered to let her watch a movie in my room, but told her that she had to watch a movie that was already in there, I was not taking a movie out of the big DVD player.  She pitched a fit because she wanted to watch High School Musical and she thought that the only copy was out in the living room.  I gave her a warning that if she broke the rules about whining and throwing a fit again then she would need to sit in the time out chair and she immediately pitched ANOTHER fit.  So, I sent her to the time out chair and she refused to sit in the chair.  I then gave her yet another warning that if she did not sit in the time out chair and take her time out then she would spend the rest of the night in her room.  She talked back to me again and said no… so guess what happened next?!  Much to her disbelief she found herself in her room for the remainder of the evening.  She’s quite unhappy, but I gave her plenty of warnings.  Still… it is breaking my heart to listen to her cry… sometimes I think punishments are harder on us than they are on them LOL.

I agree with your last statement whole-heartedly. Of course, that is now that I’m a mom. Still, stand your ground, good for you. My poor kids had to clean their rooms today only to get to be able to next go and help their dad clean the church! It isn’t supposed to be a punishment, but man I wouldn’t blame them if they complained about it.

The kids enjoyed cleaning the church knowing that the next day they could play nintendo!
