So we’re sitting here and the KWWL News at 10 is on, and they reported on how cold is has been here in Iowa. Well, Kate got a little upset when they flashed this on the screen:
- Antarctica 35
- Fairbanks, AK 34
- Moscow 26
- North Pole 7
- Waterloo -9
Somehow to Kate, that just doesn’t seem quite right.

My kids actually started a class about Antarctica Thursday. That was one thing the teacher mentioned: that it was colder here than there. It’s summer there right now. That’s why it’s so “warm”.
I understand it is Summer in Antartica, but not in those other places. How can Waterloo be colder than the North Pole?
Also, it’s a good thing we’re worried about “climate change” now, instead of “global warming”. Because the latter just seems kind of silly now.
i’m with Kate – it’s just not right!
