Crazy BIG weekend!!!

Well, it is finally Sunday night and the weekend is over! It was a GINORMOUSLY packed weekend of fun and excitement! Friday night was Audrey’s 7th Birthday party! She had four friends from school and her best friend, Elise over for TWO HOURS of all things High School Musical! First the girls played High School Musical SING IT! birthdaygraduation08 018.jpg After that, they enjoyed THREE pizzas and cake birthdaygraduation08 050.jpg

The next day was Saturday which was Chris’s graduation from the University of Iowa birthdaygraduation08 057.jpgIt was definitely a loooooooooooooong graduation program but Michael, Audrey, and I are SO proud of Chris, so we were willing to sit there at Carver Hawkeye Arena for 2+ hours! Later in the afternoon we all convened at my parents house for a super fun graduation party! So many family and friends joined us and it was wonderfully fun with just the right amount of food (although, you may hear arguments from other people about this).

And TODAY, Sunday is Audrey’s 7th BIRTHDAY!!! So Daddy and Audrey took off today for a Daddy-Daughter day where they enjoyed a VERY fancy brunch at the Iowa River Power Company and then some shopping at the Coral Ridge Mall. While they were gone, Grandma Staley and Linda Kopping sneaked over to our house where we redecorated Audrey’s room! We repainted the room, erasing 4 years of toddler and young children’s drawing, and then hung up her brand new sparkly curtains and made her bed with her new bedset from Grandma and Grandpa Staley! We called Daddy to tell him it was safe to come home, so I sat in her room with the camera to catch her face when she saw her room birthdaygraduation08 072.jpg As she opened her door this is what she saw… birthdaygraduation08 082.jpg

Thanks, from Audrey

im houme thank you for coming and thaks for the gifts

Hospital update on Audrey

Audrey is doing much better today…now here’s the FULL story…

So Friday Chris picked her up from school and she said her stomach hurt. I was with my mom so Chris called me and of course I was like… well duh, let her take a bath and watch a movie, she’s fine. I get home at about 4 and she’s still on the couch and when she sees me she start crying (now, she’s a dramatic little one, you will see her in movies one day I swear lol, so this was not a huge concern when that happened) so I cuddled with her and then got up to start dinner. At dinnertime she ate a little and then went back to the couch. At about 6:30pm she said that it was starting to hurt to breathe. At this point (yes, hand me the horrible mommy award) I was thinking how long is she going to be so dramatic?! So, thinking that perhaps she would balk at the idea, I offered to take her to the emergency room. She then said that she was scared of that and started to cry, but this time when she cried she held her stomach and wailed how much it hurt. I think then, I really started to think it might be serious. I decided that I couldn’t sit around all weekend wondering if there was really something serious, so I loaded her up and took her to the ER. We got there and of course, had to wait almost an hour before someone could see her because they were so busy. They got a urine sample and then were brave enough to attempt to get blood from my little screamer (it was hilarious though, because her nurse had a thick southern accent and was begging Audrey to just hold still and finally Audrey complied and the nurse said… I QUOTE…”Sweet baby Jesus, let me get some blood!” ROFLOL). When we first got there Audrey didn’t have a fever, but two hours in, she started to spike a fever so then they decided they should do an x-ray. After that she was complaining that the pain was worse and she couldn’t walk because it hurt so bad. Finally at about 11pm (and after Chris got a ride to the hospital to be with us) the surgeon came down to the room and said that he could do a cat scan to see more, but that would take 3 hours and he didn’t think it would really change the outcome, so he suggested that they do laparoscopic surgery and take out her appendix. They said that if it had ruptured or they found something more serious, they might have to switch to a more invasive procedure, but the laparoscopic offered them the least invasive start.

Audrey Wheeler, Appendix Free since… today

I am SO tired so I am not going to write much. Most of you don’t know what is going on yet.

Around 7:30pm last night, Kate took Audrey to the UIHC ER. I got there around 11pm. She went in to surgery around 2:30am and got done around 5-ish am. At 6am they let us go to the room she would eventually be at, but I left before they got her there. They are expecting her to stay around 3 days or so.

That’s all for now. I haven’t slept all night.

My baby is six…

Well, today is Audrey’s 6th birthday. We went to see Shrek the Third at the movie theatre, and then I let her choose where we went for her birthday dinner, and she chose…

Happy 5th Birthday Audrey!

Today, the day we celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Audrey Elizabeth, I say to her, Happy Birthday.

And to my wife, I say this:

Thank you for awakening me during my slumber that August night. How fortunate that the specific seed which fertilized your ovum was able to find the correct fallopian tube, for any other of my seed would have produced a different child. Thank you for nurturing her during the nine months of gestation. And thank you for the work of labor, in which you pushed this child through the birth canal and into the world.

Tonight, to celebrate, we shall have Red Lobster, and cake!!!
