THIS. IS. American Idol.

Holy cow, tonight is the premiere of American Idol Season 7! I can’t wait!

Do not call tonight.

Something to talk about, other than hair…

Uh… so Sanjaya is gone. And I am sad.

Actually, I was SO EXCITED that Sanjaya was voted off that I started clapping my hands very enthusiastically and such, and my hands hurt for the rest of the night. And in fact, still now.

I’m actually kinda shocked though that he was voted off. Usually when a contestant is voted off they’ve been in the bottom 3 for at least a week and maybe more. This was his first time.

I’m just glad that now we don’t have to look at his ridiculous hair anymore. Oh, and his horrible singing voice.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the ridiculous title of this post. It is based off of a ridiculous edit of the song “Something to Talk About” by Bonnie Raitt. Ms. Malakar so cleverly changed the lyrics

Let’s give them something to talk about
How about love?

to this

Let’s give them something to talk about
Other than hair

Hello?!?! If you wouldn’t wear your hair in such… stupid styles, people wouldn’t talk about it. Besides, it is nicer to comment on your hair, than to tell you the real truth, that you suck as a singer.

American Idol - Top 3

American Idol starts in 2 minutes.

I predict Katharine gets sent home tonight, but I don’t think she deserves it. I think Elliott should go home. They were all good, but he was the least good of the three.

But Katharine, wow, she BLEW ME AWAY with her performance last night of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. I literally started to tear up it was so beautiful.

We’ll see what happens in an hour.

American Idol Predictions (5/10/2006)

OK, let me start this by saying that I was NOT looking forward to this week on American Idol. I am not an Elvis fan at all; in fact, there is only one Elvis song that I think I can say that I like.

Taylor Hicks

  • Jailhouse Rock - I think that perhaps this was the most ridiculous performance of the night. Taylor Hicks has got NOTHING on Jon Peter Lewis. OK, I really just didn’t think this performance was great at all, too karaoke-ish for my tastes.
  • In The Ghetto - By far, to me, the best performance of the night. Again, never heard the song before, but I really felt it. It was a perfect choice of song for him, and he did it well.

Chris Daughtry

  • Suspicious Minds - Never heard of this song, though Kate said she loves it. I guess it was ok, but it seemed a little boring, and even predictable.
  • Little Less Conversation - This is the aforementioned only Elvis song that I like. I think it was pretty good. Actually, I quite enjoyed it.

Elliott Yamin

  • If I Can Dream - Again, I have never heard this song, and I thought it was boring. I couldn’t get in to it at all. I will say though, his vocals were great. Just boring.
  • Trouble - Again, vocally, really good. Really, really, good. Again, I just couldn’t get in to it. Should I fault the singers if I hate the songs? I guess I don’t know.

Katharine McPhee

  • Hound Dog / All Shook Up - It wasn’t until I heard Katharine sing this song last night that I realized how… dumb the lyrics to this song are. You ain’t never caught a rabbit and you ain’t no friend of mine. Maybe there is some hidden meaning there that I am not getting. It’s not likely that I will try to figure it out either. Katharine did ok I guess, she was kinda pitchy though. And in the Top 4, you shouldn’t be forgetting lyrics.
  • Can’t Help Falling in Love with You - I think this started out great, but it just seemed like it got a little over the top by the time it was over. I do like how she tried to change it up a bit, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that she needs to do more… just do it a little differently.

WHO I THINK SHOULD GO: Taylor Hicks
He did have the best performance of the night, but I also feel like he had the worst as well. I know that earlier in the competition I really liked him, but over the past few weeks I will say my enthusiasm for Taylor has waned. Don’t get me wrong, I still think he’s good, but I don’t think he’s as good as the other three, and I think he will be safe, as opposed to…

WHO I THINK WILL GO: Elliott Yamin
I really don’t think that Elliott deserves to go, but let’s face it, at this point in the competition, somebody good is going to have to go. It’s not like in weeks previous where there was a contestant who was clearly worse than the others. I base my opinion on Elliott leaving based solely on the fact that he was in the bottom last week.

At this point in the competition, my favorites are as follows:

  1. Katharine McPhee
  2. Elliott Yamin
  3. Chris Daughtry
  4. Taylor Hicks

I know Katharine wasn’t the best this week, but I feel she has really proven herself throughout the competition as the best.

What’s a ballsy?

OK, so apparently Kellie Pickler doesn’t know what the word “ballsy” means, made obvious by the fact that when Simon said her performance was ballsy, she asked, “What’s a ballsy?”

The funny thing is, I’m watching a video clip of Kellie on “Fox and Friends” and Brian asked her what song she sang, and what her “faux paus” was. She didn’t even flinch. How in the world does she know “faux paus” but not “ballsy”? Is it because she doesn’t have to try and play dumb for votes anymore?

American Idol Predictions (2/28/2006)

Stupid DISH DVR, didn’t tape the show. No predictions.

American Idol Results (2/23/2006)

Well, I’m 1/2 with the guys and 1/2 with the girls, so I’m batting .500.

I was right about Stevie and Bobby. Here is what I didn’t predict:

  • Becky O’Donohue - she did sing horribly, one of the worst performances of the night. I thought that she would get though to next week based on looks alone.
  • Patrick Hall - not a bad singer, he actually has a pleasant voice which is above average. Unfortunately, he did not stand out, and in the end, his performance just wasn’t memorable. To win this competition you are going to have to stand out from the crowd.

Come back next week for more!

American Idol Predictions (2/22/2006)

Tonight is was the guys time to shine. Here are my predictions for who gets booted:

  • Bobby Bennett - sang Copacabana by Barry Manilow. Seems like a really nice kid. Decent voice. Seemed overly obsessed with Barry Manilow though.
  • Gedeon McKinney - definitely not one of the worst singers, not too bad actually. But his performance seemed really like a… circus. I just didn’t get in to it.

We’ll see Thursday how I did.

American Idol Predictions (2/21/2006)

The girls sang tonight. There were some good performances, and some terrible ones.

So far, here are my favorites:

  • Mandisa
  • Kellie Pickler
  • Paris Bennett
  • Katherine McPhee

Here is who I think will be eliminated:

  • Stevie Scott - her performance was horrible. She wasn’t up to the task at all, and didn’t even seem like she belonged there.
  • Kinnik Sky - her performance was ok, but for some reason I’m just not digging her.

We’ll see what happens Thursday.
